Near the corner with Philadelphia Street, the Old Crown was rebuilt around 1906. During the war it survived a bombing raid which destroyed the property next door but it didn’t survive the re-development of the area and was pulled down in 1957.

This picture shows the Old Crown in the 1950’s, the bomb site next door has been cleared leaving no trace of the old Taylor’s print works. This area has once again been re-developed and a branch of Harvey Nicholls now stands on this spot.
