On the corner with St.James’s Square Avenue, the Crown & Cushion was pulled down in 1958. This view of the pub was only possible because the buildings opposite had just been demolished. When the door numbers in Milk street ran consecutively the Crown & Cushion was at No.15.  Around 1877-78 the system of alternate numbering was introduced, and the Crown & Cushion became No.23.
