An email kindly sent in by Frank Johnson .... I have today
received a copy of my GGGGrandfather, John Davidge’s Will. He appears to have owned
the White Swan in Southgate Street, Bath “I give unto my son Thomas the sum of Eighteen
Pounds and Five shillings per year which I direct my executors to pay to him by weekly
instalments of seven shillings arising from the rent of my leasehold house known
by the name or sign of the White Swan in Southgate Street in the Parish of St. James
in the City and Borough of Bath and now in the occupation of Nathaniel Banes as tenant
thereof” This will was written in 1843 and he died in 1844.
